U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin released the names Feb. 21 of young men and women he has nominated to attend the four of the nation’s service academies.
“These nominees are tomorrow’s leaders from communities throughout Illinois and our country will benefit from their service,” the Democratic senator said.
The academies include U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y. Everyone who wishes to attend a service academy must secure a nomination from one of a few sources, including a U.S. senator.
The nominees were chosen by Durbin’s Service Academy Selection Committee, a nonpartisan board that meets annually in December to review applicants.
Nominees include the following:
• Michael W. Cremins of Burr Ridge, son of Michael and Connie Cremins, to West Point
• James P. McGrath of La Grange, son of James and Karen McGrath, U.S. Naval Academy
