WESTERN SPRINGS

The Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic Schools announced Laurie Petersen, a nurse at St. John of the Cross School, as one of its Heart of the School Award winners.

Each year the Diocese names 14 faculty and staff members in recognition of outstanding, unique and innovative accomplishments in seven categories.

Petersen rose to the top in the Behind the Scenes category as she is a non administrative staff person who contributes to the unique program successes. Peterson is committed to serving the students in the best possible way.

“I bring enthusiasm and a genuine concern for the well being of students and staff along with a commitment to our common purpose of providing a Christ-centered, Catholic education for our students and families,” Petersen said. “The needs of the students keep me focused, keep me striving to learn what I need to know to provide quality care.”

She not only cares for children who become ill during the day, but she performs mandated screening for vision and hearing, communicates with parents and staff on students’ medical conditions and she is current on all current trends of the profession.

Petersen was selected out of 589 nominees from the 6,000 plus educators across the Archdiocese. ~.
