Loyola merger should not affect Burr Ridge health center

Updated: July 14, 2011 2:38AM

Loyola University Health System, including the building at County Line Road and Interstate 55 in Burr Ridge, became part of Trinity Health on July 1.

But Loyola spokeswoman Nora Plunkett said those who use the facility won’t notice the change.

The 105,000-square-foot Loyola Center for Health at Burr Ridge opened March 7 at 6800 N. Frontage Road. It offers a number of medical specialties and an urgent care center. Plunkett said there are no plans to change the name of the Burr Ridge facility due to the merger.

Loyola officials said the merger of Trinity Health and Loyola will increase resources and efficiencies for patients.

“This collaboration holds great promise for the future and is an excellent foundation for growth to better serve the Chicago-area community,” Joseph R. Swedish, president and CEO of Trinity Health, said in a statement announcing the finalization of the merger. “The consolidation brings together two strong Catholic health systems committed to investing in patient care, infrastructure, facilities and research. I am confident that, together, Trinity Health, LUC, and LUHS will become a leader for Catholic collaboration in Chicago and across the nation.”

Once a wholly owned subsidiary of Loyola University, Trinity Health becomes the owner of LUHS, while the Stritch School of Medicine and Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing, along with several key research programs and initiatives, will remain within the university. The organizations will remain connected.

Trinity Health, based in Novi, Mich., is the fourth-largest Catholic health system, with 47 hospitals in 10 states.

LUHS is a leading Jesuit academic medical center, with a multidisciplinary focus on patient care, research and medical, nursing and graduate education. The system has one of the largest networks of practice sites in the region, with 28 facilities, including a 61-acre main medical campus in Maywood, Gottlieb Memorial Hospital and primary and specialty care facilities in Cook, Will and DuPage counties.
