Nazareth celebrates homecoming in Hollywood style

Nazareth Academy students revved up school spirit with a Hollywood flair to celebrate homecoming activities Oct. 7 with a pep rally and the school’s 37th annual fund-raising walk in LaGrange Park.

Students geared up for a homecoming parade Oct. 8 in preparation for football contests against Notre Dame High School, which the varsity won 42-13. The game was followed by the homecoming dance, “A Red Carpet Affair.”

Earlier in the week, students staged a hallway decorating contest, scavenger hunt with clues tucked away around the school and several celebrity dress-up days, including a celebrity look-alike competition.

Cissi Thunander, marketing and public relations director, said a new process of electing the homecoming court was introduced this year.Students were asked to vote for the male and female in their class who most embodies each of the four pillars of Nazareth.

Seniors nominees were Amanda Larry of Western Springs and Vinnie Raimondi of Addison, representing scholarship; Morgan Borkovec of Berwyn and Mike Woods of Chicago for service; Stephanie Janus of La Grange and Eddie Gengo of Western Springs for spirit; and Alyssa Hudik of Downers Grove and Michael Muehlhauser of Darien for unity.

Junior nominees were Esha Gandhi of Darien and Matt Ramsey of Clarendon Hills for scholarship; Justyna Falat of Westmont and Matt Serafin of LaGrange Park for service; Laura Hill of La Grange and Drew Minik of Western Springs for spirit; and Dimitri Spandonidis of Lockport and Jessie Villanueva of Berwyn for unity.

Sophomore nominees were Erin Getty of La Grange and Jake Bartels of Westchester for scholarship; Frankie Citro of Westchester and Joey Nelson of La Grange for spirit; Annie Gustafson and David Heyer, both of Western Springs, for service; and Kim Curtis of LaGrange Park and Kyle Stiff of Westchester for unity.
