Whole Foods Market plans to move into the vacated Dominick’s Finer Foods store in Willowbrook. However, Willowbrook will not be gaining a grocery store, because there already is a Whole Foods a short distance from the former Dominick’s.

Willowbrook Village Administrator Tim Halik said Whole Foods confirmed its plans to take over the empty Dominick’s at 63rd Street and Route 83, but gave no additional details.

“I don’t know the time frame,” Halik said.

The former Dominick’s, at 70,000 square feet, is nearly double the existing Whole Foods, which is in a stand-alone 38,000-square-foot building on the south side of 63rd Street, just east of Clarendon Hills Road.

“They’ll be moving into the shopping center about 1,000 yards to the east,” Halik said.

Whole Foods leases its current building, he said.

Village officials are eager to know when the move likely will occur, because it will leave a fairly large commercial building available.

“We are very anxious to know who has control of it,” Halik said.

Representatives of Whole Foods did not immediately return calls for comment.
