The 3rd Annual Erin Potts Volleyball Invitational was held Feb. 4 and 5 at St. Cletus School in La Grange.
The invitational is to honor the memory of Erin Potts, a St. Cletus and Lyons Township High School graduate diagnosed at age 15 with a rare bone cancer, Ewings Sarcoma, and lost her battle in December 2009 at age 18.
The St. Cletus Community, along with the Potts family, honor Erin’s memory and her passion for volleyball with an annual tournament with 10 local seventh- and eighth-grade teams, along with an alumni tournament to raise money. This year all proceeds were donated to Bear Necesseties, which is a Pediatric Cancer Foundation to help support the families of pedicatric cancer patients.
This year more than $5,500 was raised, and both grade level champions were St. Cletus teams.
The tournament is chaired by St. Cletus volleyball coach Sue Rejdukowski, gym teacher Tina Pryor and former athletic director Katie Frisbie. All concessions were donated by families and local businesses, (Via Bella and Little Joes) along with a bake sale from the Girls Scouts and all run by volunteers from St. Cletus.
