BURR RIDGE — James White of Burr Ridge was awarded the 2012 Gamer of the Year Certificate of Achievement by the Galloping Ghost Arcade, located in Brookfield.
White is the second winner of the award, which in 2011 went to Matt Rocco.
The award states “Congratulations to James White for a great year of arcade gaming. For setting numerous high scores, achieving world records and showing incredible skill, determination, and gamesmanship, you are truly a great video game player.”
At the time of the award presentation, White held 14 world records on games available at the arcade, along with numerous in-house high scores. He has been playing arcade games virtually since their inception and has owned numerous console games, which currently includes the Nintendo Wii. He is also an avid volleyball player/fan, likes music, movies and taking care of Sami, his family’s Black Lab.
At the awards presentation, White thanked the staff of Galloping Ghost for the friendly atmosphere, maintenance and continually increasing game selection at the arcade. He also applauded the dedicated support of classic arcade gaming and their commitment to acknowledge player achievement by posting arcade and world records above each of the games.
The Galloping Ghost Arcade, the largest arcade in Illinois, attempted to set a simultaneous video arcade game play record (Aug. 18) in celebration of their second anniversary. Several of the 350 video arcade games were being played at the same time. The Galloping Ghost Arcade is awaiting confirmation of their achievement.
