WILLOW SPRINGS —After four months on the market, The Chalet recreation center still has no takers.
If buyers don’t want the building itself, they might be interested in what is inside, Pleasant Dale Park District board President Kevin Burke said.
Burke said the board agreed last week to appraise the fitness equipment inside the park district’s building at 8300 S. Wolf Road for possible sale.
“If somebody was going to buy it and make it a health club they would have contacted us by now,” Burke said.
The recreation center was losing money at a rate of $15,000 a month when it was shuttered in April. In the months since it went on the market in June, Burke said about 20 potential buyers have looked at the property, but no one has moved to purchase the $1.8 million building.
If a year passes without a buyer, the park district can ask a judge to lower the asking price. But Burke said he is hopeful that the improving economy will lead to a sale.
In the meantime, the sale of the equipment inside would bring welcome revenue to the district, he said.
The 60,000-square-foot facility has an indoor pool, running track, fitness room with weights and cardio machines, basketball and volleyball courts, a dance and aerobics studio, locker rooms with a sauna, a steam room and a restaurant and bar area.
