Man charged with DUI, eluding police

A Burr Ridge man faces multiple charges after a series of incidents that occurred Friday, Burr Ridge police reported.
Thomas J. Dlugopolski, 20, of 15W734 74th St., was charged with driving under the influence of drugs, attempting to flee or elude police, driving without insurance, speeding and squealing tires.
The series of events leading to Dlugopolski’s arrest began at about 10:20 p.m. Friday, when a Burr Ridge officer reported seeing an occupied vehicle in Harvester Park after hours. The officer made contact with the occupant of the vehicle, Dlugopolski, who told the officer he had been in a park pavilion with some of his friends and was just leaving.
The officer reported smelling a strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle. Police said subsequent investigation revealed a bag containing a substance believed to be marijuana and some drug paraphernalia.
Dlugopolski at that time was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and released on bond. His vehicle was secured at the scene and he was instructed not to retrieve his car until the following day.
A short time later, another officer on patrol in the area reported seeing Dlugopolski driving on 71st Street from the park. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but police said it sped away, eluding the officer.
The officer chose not to pursue in the interest of public safety, but continued to monitor the area and observed the subject again driving south on Soper from Madison. With the combined efforts of three other officers, they stopped the car and again took Dlugopolski into custody.
