Indian Head Park defers two capital purchases

INDIAN HEAD PARK — The Indian Head Park Village Board amended its budget July 11 to correct mistakes in the calculation of expenses and revenues.

The Village Board on June 27 approved a $4.1 million budget that showed a $13,189 surplus for this fiscal year, which began May 1.

But David Brink, a member of the administrative services staff, realized a formula in the spreadsheet used to prepare the budget on the computer, was wrong. It understated the village’s share for its police dispatch service by about $68,000.

Another formula in the spreadsheet also was input incorrectly, and calculated $15,000 less in projected gaming tax receipts.

The net change after these corrections would have left the budget about $40,000 in the red.

Because the Village Board wanted the budget balanced, two capital expenses in the budget that was previously approved were deferred to next year, Mayor Richard Andrews explained. A replacement generator for $6,000 and equipment for a dump truck estimated to cost $36,000 were removed. The result was a budget with a $1,925 surplus.
