Eat well, be well was the theme of the family health fair the Hinsdale Junior Woman’s Club hosted Sunday at the Hinsdale Community House.
Members of the club helped children make pumpkin, dairy-free yogurt parfaits.
“We had chocolate chips and granola toppings, so the kids would like it even more,” said Shazia Sultan of Hinsdale, who co-chaired the fair with fellow club member Purva Shah of Oak Brook.
A fitness instructor taught Zumba classes for children and dietician Joan Dannacher gave families lots of tips on preparing healthy meals and snacks.
The K9 Fit Club of Hinsdale brought an obstacle course for one of its dogs, who demonstrated his agility before the children took their turn on the course, Sultan said.
“K9 Fit club shows you how to work out with your pet,” Sultan said.
About 65 families came to the fair, which raised money for local charities and the Hephzibah Children’s Association in Oak Park, which provides day care, group homes and foster care.
It was the first year the Junior Woman’s Club held the fair, but probably not the last.
“We think we will bring this back to the community again next year,” Sultan said.
More than 200 women from Hinsdale, Burr Ridge, Clarendon Hills, Oak Brook, Western Springs, La Grange and Downers Grove are members of the junior woman’s club.
