An expanded inpatient acute rehabilitation unit will open in January 2015 at Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital.
The new facility has been proposed to replace an existing unit at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital not in compliance with handicap accessibility rules, according to an agreement reached with the Illinois Attorney General’s office.
The office had been investigating a 2010 complaint that the Hinsdale unit didn’t meet design standards for pubic facilities required by the Americans with Disabilities Act.
“The new unit will have a fully built apartment, which will prepare patients to return home independently, as well as a larger therapy gym facility,” said Michael Goebel, Adventist Hinsdale Hospital chief executive officer, in a prepared statement.
The Hinsdale unit will continue to offer inpatient rehabilitation services until the new facility is completed in La Grange, which will have 16 beds and require remodeling of existing spaces.
The La Grange therapy unit primarily offers outpatient services at present, but will house inpatient services for both hospitals. Outpatient services will continue to be offered at a third facility, Adventist Paulson Rehab in Willowbrook.
