The extended deep freeze has extended a second day off for Lyons Township High School and surrounding elementary districts.
LT Superintendent Tim Kilrea said the high school closing for Jan. 7 was forced due to a combination of bitterly cold temperatures, no assurance buses will function properly and concern for student and staff safety.
No classes were scheduled for Jan. 6, but teacher institute sessions were canceled, as well as after-school practices. After-school events Jan. 7 have been postponed.
The high school previously had scheduled a late start day on Jan. 8 with classes scheduled at 8:45 a.m.
A decision will be reached in the coming weeks on when to make up the missed day of class at LT, Kilrea said.
