District 180 negotiations go into summer months

School is out for the summer in District 180, but for teachers at Anne M. Jeans Elementary and Burr Ridge Middle schools, their work isn’t done.
Members of the teachers’ bargaining unit, Teachers Organization of Palisades, have asked the School Board to continue negotiations toward a new contract into the summer.
The district’s 58 teachers have worked without a contract since Aug. 31. Despite months of negotiations and proposals from both sides, salaries and the length of the school day continue to stand in the way of a new deal.
Wednesday’s meeting between members of the School Board and union leaders resulted in another offer from the board, board President Paula Dupont said.
“I think we made some more progress,” Dupont said Thursday.
Dupont said the latest offer includes compromises that meet the needs of both parties.
“What we left them with, they really, really should take,” Dupont said.
“There was more movement, but no final deal,” TOP President Lynn Moynihan said. “We will meet over the summer as needed.”
