Theodora Salazar, of Countryside, received an honorable mention in the Playwriting category for her play “Raising the Dead” at Columbia College Chicago’s Young Authors Awards 2012, held April 7.

Columbia’s Young Authors awards program, in its 15th year, attracted more than 1,200 entries from high school students across the United States. In addition to the awards ceremony, the day’s events included Story Workshop writing classes, a publishing panel of established writers and a chance for the young authors to read their work at an open mic.

Novelists, short-story writers, journalists, editors, playwrights and creative writing teachers judged the students’ submissions. First-, second- and third-place winners in each category won cash prizes of $200, $100, and $50, respectively.
