Lyons Township High School team takes first in speech

The Lyons Township High School Varsity Speech Team won an outstanding 27 medals at the recent Maine Mania Tournament and earning 1st place as a team, bringing home their first 1st place trophy of the season and bringing home their first 1st place trophy in the last eight years.

LT took top honors at the 12-team tournament, outscoring the other teams by 40 points. In total, 33 LT students participated in 42 events and earned 27 individual medals, bringing the speech team’s total medal count to 53 medals.

Team sponsor Kirsten Manthei attributes much of the team’s success to two factors: size and strength. Two years ago, the team consisted of just five students. Last year, the team grew to 25, and now there are 43 students competing.
