BURR RIDGE — The Elm School Kids Care Club and first-grade students were recently recognized for their Toys for Tots toy drive.
United States Marine Paul Casazza visited the school Dec. 17 to present a plaque to the students and staff for their efforts. With coordination by the PTO Community Service Committee, the drive resulted in more than 160 items that will be given to area families this holiday.
Committee Chairman Joy Kepouros and committee members Tejal Mehta, Maddie Schaik and Diane Ray-Pruitt were on hand to greet Casazza, who thanked the first-graders for their leadership in the toy drive.
The Community Service Committee of the Elm PTO also organizes participation in the Rotary Run and the Autism Walk, a Pennies for Paws collection for the Hinsdale Humane Society, food drives, book drives, and a variety of other charitable efforts.
Casazza noted that anyone wishing to contribute to Toys for Tots is encouraged to do so, noting toys for children ages 0-2, teens, and pre-teens are especially needed. More information about Toys for Tots can be found at www.toysfortots.org.
