Nazareth Academy inducts seven to Atheltic Hall of Fame

LAGRANGE PARK — Nazareth Academy inducted seven new members into the Athletic Hall of Fame on Jan. 19. The induction took place during halftime of the varsity boys basketball game. Prior to the game, Nazareth hosted a reception for the recipients, their guests and many Nazareth alumni, including dozens of former student-athletes.

During the ceremony, which took place in Nazareth’s Rooney Student Center, each inductee received a commemorative award from Deborah Tracy and Nazareth President, Dennis Moran.

Rose Rouse - Coach (1978-1989): Instituted first Nazareth Girls Varsity Softball team, 1979; Head Girls Varsity Softball coach, 1979-1985 (76-60 record overall); Head Girls Varsity Volleyball coach, 1978-1985 (230-118-11 record overall); Instituted first Nazareth Junior Varsity Volleyball team, 1980; Head Girls Junior Varsity Volleyball coach, 1980-1984 (62-17 record overall); Girls Catholic Athletic Conference Volleyball Divisional Chairperson, 1979; Private School League Volleyball Chairperson, 1986; Inducted into University of Illinois Chicago Athletic Hall of Fame--Women’s Volleyball, 1994.

Tamika J. Curtis - Athlete (Class of 2004): Participated in Basketball, four years; East Suburban Catholic Conference All Conference Basketball, 2004; Four year Women’s Basketball player, Benedictine University; Benedictine leading scorer, four years, 17 pts/g average; Benedictine leading rebounder, three years, 10.6 reb/g average; 1st Team All NIIC, Two Years - NIIC Newcomer of the Year, 2005 and NIIC Co-Player of the Year, 2006; 1st Team All NAC, Two Years - NAC Player of the Year, 2007 and WBCA 1st Team All Region D3Hoops.com, 2008; Three Time NAC Player of the Week, 2008; Set Benedictine Records for Scoring, Field Goal percentage, Field Goals Made, Blocks & Double-doubles; Second Leading Rebounder in Benedictine History Federacio Catalana de Basqetbol-Copa Catalunya, Spain, 2009-2010.

Nick DiForti - Athlete (Class of 1999): Participated in Basketball, two years; Conference Team Championship, 1998; Private School League All Conference First Team Selection, 1999; Co-Most Valuable All Conference Player, 1999; Suburban Life All Area Basketball First Team 1999; Nazareth individual record holder, 69 3pt. field goals in a season; Averaged 18 points per game, 1998-1999; Daily Southtown All-Area Team, 1999; 9th all-time leading scorer, 708 points, 2 years; Team Roadrunner/MVP 1998-1999; Played Basketball at Benedictine University; Northern Athletics Conference Champions; Member of NCAA Division III Tournament Team, 2001; Plainfield North Head Basketball Coach, 2008-present; Plainfield Enterprise Coach of the Year, 2009.

Sean Egan - Athlete (Class of 1998): Participated in Football and Baseball, four years; Nazareth Football team captain, two years; Suburban Life All-Area Football Quarterback, 1997, 1998; All Conference Football Quarterback, 1997, 1998; First Team All-Conference Football Quarterback, 1997; Nazareth Baseball team captain, two years; All Conference Baseball, 1997, 1998; Suburban Life First Team All-Area Baseball, 1997, 1998; Varsity Baseball letterman, St. Ambrose University, four years; Won 20+ games in career with 230+ career innings pitched; St. Ambrose team captain, two years.

Emily Hajduk - Athlete (Class of 2003): Participated in Swimming and Softball, four years; Participated in Basketball, two years; Suburban Life All-Area Softball Team, four years; Private School League Softball All-Conference, 2000, 2001; East Suburban Catholic Conference Softball All-Conference, 2002, 2003; Chicago Tribune Top 100 Softball Players in Illinois; Nazareth Roadrunner Award for Swimming, 2003; Nazareth Roadrunner Award for Softball, 2003; Drake University Softball player, four years; Drake starting centerfielder, every game, four years; Commissioner’s Academic Excellence Award; Paul Morrison Scholarship Award; Strength and Conditioning Awards, 2003-2007.

Kenan Lavelle - Athlete (Class of 1987):Participated in Football and Baseball, four years; Participated in Basketball, three years; Private School League All-Conference Football, 1985, 1986; Private School League All-Conference Baseball 1986, 1987; Life Newspapers All-Area Football, 1986; Life Newspapers All-Area Baseball, 1987; Nazareth Roadrunner Award, Baseball, 1987

Participated on Benedictine University Baseball team.

Robert E. Lee - Friend of Athletics: For his support of and dedication to Nazareth Academy Athletics. For more than ten years Bob has provided all of the concrete work for Nazareth’s R.J. Sanders Baseball Field, Valenta Stadium and, most recently, the John Michalek Softball Field. As the proud parent of three alumni, he constantly looks for ways to assist and give back to Nazareth Academy.
