Hinsdale High School District 86 will change its parent-teacher conference schedule in November, so that Hinsdale South parents will get an additional half-day to schedule conferences.
The students at both high schools used to attend school that half-day, but will have the full day off this year.
In discussions with school administrators, “it became apparent to us (the best arrangement) would be to have a full day of conferences on a no-attendance day for students,” said District 86 Acting Superintendent Bruce Law.
The conferences will be Thursday, Nov. 7 and the entire school day on Nov. 8.
Last year, at both Hinsdale Central and Hinsdale South, students had a full day of classes on a Thursday in November at the end of the first quarter, then teachers would stay for parent-teacher conferences scheduled that evening between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.
The following day, the South students would attend classes in the morning, be dismissed, and then their teachers would have conferences with parents in the afternoon.
At Central, the students would attend school Friday morning, but be involved with activities, such as taking practice tests, that did not involve their teachers instructing them. Thus, the teachers would have the full day free Friday for parent-teacher conferences.
This year, neither Hinsdale Central, nor Hinsdale South students will attend school Nov. 9, so teachers are able to schedule conferences during their entire school day, roughly between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
