COUNTRYSIDE – As students from Countryside headed back to school this week, the Countryside Police Department increased traffic rules and reminded drivers of these safety tips. Read the press release below to learn more.
Ideal students return[ed] to school on Thursday, August 22. To prepare for a safe return, we have placed our traffic safety sign on 58th Street near Ideal School. We will be monitoring speeds and traffic flow while reminding motorists to use caution as students return after summer break. Our ultimate goal is to keep everyone safe—especially our young residents. With that in mind, we will also be monitoring traffic on 55th Street for our St. Cletus students. Parents, please remind children to cross at intersections monitored by one of our department crossing guards. The Countryside Police Department wishes students a safe and successful school year!
AAA Offers the Following Back-to-School Safe Driving Tips
Slow down. Watch speed limits in school zones. Eliminate distractions. Keep your eyes on the road.
Reverse responsibly. Watch for children around your vehicle before slowly backing up.
Talk to your teen. Car crashes are the leading cause of death for teens in the United States (TeenDriving.AAA.com).
Come to a complete stop. At stop signs make a complete stop and watch for children.
Watch for bikes. Slow down and allow at least 3 feet of passing distance between your vehicle and the bicycle. If your child rides a bike to school, make sure they wear a bicycle helmet.
