After months of construction, $9 million worth of improvements recently were completed at Gower Elementary District 62 schools. The public will have the chance to see the final results on Oct. 25, when the district holds an open house for the entire community.
The public is invited to tour Gower Middle School, 7941 S. Madison St., from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Members of the Student Council will offer guided tours, or guests can embark on a self-guided tour of the new gymnasium, new science classrooms and school addition.
Gower West Elementary School, 7700 Clarendon Hills Road, will hold tours from 6 to 8 p.m. Tours will be held in conjunction with the Gower PTO’s annual pumpkin fest, which will feature costume contests, games, and, of course, lots of pumpkins.
Superintendent Victor Simon said the open house is a chance to unveil what he hopes will be seen as a community resource.
“It’s an opportunity to show off the completed project,” he said.
Improvements to both schools were made possible through a bond issue approved by voters in 2012. Construction began last spring and was completed early this school year.
