A false fire alarm did not stop Hinsdale Central’s madrigal singers from performing as they planned Dec. 19.

Steam accidentally set off a fire alarm in a locker room at the high school about 8 a.m., Fire Department officials said.

“The Madrigals were performing at the PTO breakfast at the time,” said choir director Jennifer Burkemper. “We headed outside the main entrance and once the school was safely evacuated, the kids spread some holiday cheer and asked to continue their caroling outside.”

“Administrators, teachers and the student body enjoyed the distraction from the cold weather,” Burkemper said.
