Lyons Township High School literary magazine earns top award

The Lyons Township High School literary magazine, Menagerie, recently received the American Scholastic Press Association’s highest award, first place with special merit, along with an award for outstanding art. The 2013 publication also received an award of superior by the National Council of Teacher of English in their program to "Recognize Excellence in Student Literary Magazines."

Menagerie was one of only eight schools in Illinois to win the highest award. Menagerie was also one of just 12 magazines to be recognized with outstanding artwork. 2013 graduate Monica Dinh earned an award for outstanding art for her piece, “When the Sounds Stop.”

Menagerie sponsors include literary advisors Joseph Maffey and Angela Gutierrez and art adviser Mary Rohlicek.
