LA GRANGE – In the coming weeks we will be getting to know some of the outstanding students at Nazareth Academy. This week we meet senior Samantha Brown.
Samantha (Sam) Brown, a senior from Chicago, has had an outstanding Girls Volleyball career at Nazareth. She set a record for most kills in a match earlier this year with 22, was named to the All-Tournament team at the Champaign Centennial Charger Invite and was recently named an ESCC All-Conference player. Sam will be playing at Youngstown State next year.
How long have you been playing your sport? What position?
I have been playing volleyball since Third Grade. I have played almost every position. Starting out, I played middle hitter. Then, for the next two years, I was setter and outside hitter. From age 14 until now, I’ve been a 6-rotation outside hitter.
What got you into sports in the first place?
I first tried Volleyball because my older sister played. It turned out I loved it so I’ve been playing ever since.
What other sports do you play? Which is your favorite?
I only play Volleyball, but I play school and club so it’s year-round. I do love watching hockey and volleyball.
What is your favorite sports team?
100%, the Chicago Blackhawks
What other activities are your involved with at Nazareth?
Volleyball is very time-consuming, so that’s my extra-curricular focus.
Do you plan on playing college sports? Where are you considering?
I am going to Youngstown State on a full scholarship. I am excited to continue playing at the college level.
What tips would you offer someone trying to get into your sport(s)?
You have to be aggressive and willing to jump a lot at a fast pace.
What do you like to do on the weekends?
I love hanging out with my family and friends, whether that’s going to the movies or the mall. Sometimes it’s just retelling the old stories with my family.
