Brittany Smith, Miss Illinois 2013, spoke to Nazareth Academy students about the dangers of distracted driving recently.

Automobile crashes continue to be the leading cause of death and injury to teenage drivers, and teens are nearly ten times more likely to be in an accident within their first year of driving. Miss Illinois presented not only facts and statistics to promote good decision making behind the wheel, but drew from her own personal experiences.

“We are delighted to have the opportunity to hear from Ms. Smith on the pertinent topic of distracted driving,” said Principal Deborah Tracy. “Too often we hear horror stories about accidents that could have been avoided. We hope that her message hits home with our teens and that it helps all of us to be better drivers moving forward.”

Smith also took the time to answer questions from students and pose for pictures.
