Picketers were outside Hinsdale Middle School this morning while work continued on mold removal and cleaning, but officials said it was not affecting work or the timeline for the school’s reopening.
SERVEPRO Damage Restoration of La Grange, Hinsdale, Burr Ridge is doing much of the work in the building, but also was subject of the protest by Laborers International Union of North America Local 225, which is seeking recognition from the company. The Willow Springs-based union represents construction workers and public service employees.
“The work at HMS has not been interrupted,” Hinsdale-Clarendon Hills Elementary District 181 Superintendent Renee Schuster said in a letter to the community. “This should in no way affect SERVEPRO’s continued progress in eradicating the mold and preparing HMS for the return of our students and staff as soon as possible.”
Hinsdale Middle School has been closed since Jan. 17 and will be closed through at least Monday.
The School Board decided this to have HMS students attend Clarendon Hills Middle School on a split schedule while work to clean up mold is completed. The schedule has CHMS students in school from 7-11:30 a.m. and HMS students in class at CHMS from noon to 4:30 p.m.
