The third annual Holiday Rock & Roll benefit drew 150 visitors to the Café des Architectes at Hotel Sofitel on Dec. 17 to help the non-profit Share Our Strength raise critical funds for their “No Kid Hungry” campaign.

Twenty-two percent—about 16 million—American children live in households that struggle to put food on the table, and nearly half of all those who use supplemental nutrition assistance programs (SNAP) are children.

Sofitel’s sweet event, under the direction of Café des Architectes’ Chef Greg Biggers and Pastry Chef Leigh Omilinsky, challenged Chicago’s top pastry chefs to create their own interpretations of the traditional holiday Bûche de Noël, a traditional French holiday cake, which attendees got to judge. Guests also sampled the chefs’ variations on savory bites — all done rouladen style.

Rod Tuffcurls and The Bench Press provided music.

The evening raised $4,000 bringing its sum total to nearly $10,000 to date. Share Our Strength uses donations to connect children facing hunger with nutritious meals in their communities, homes and schools.
