Ice skating season has begun in Burr Ridge.
Jim Pacanowski, director of parks and recreation at the Burr Ridge Park District, said this is one of the earliest openings he can remember for the rink at Palisades Park on 91st Street.
“We gambled and poured water in it last week, when it was about 50 degrees,” Pacanowski said.
Luckily, the weather forecast was correct. Temperatures dipped below freezing, providing a solid, even skating surface.
Pacanowski takes painstaking pride in providing a smooth sheet of ice at Palisades Park each winter. He said that although this early blast of Arctic air is hard for some to take, it makes for perfect skating conditions.
“We’re loving it,” he said. “The conditions are awesome.”
Located across the street from Burr Ridge Middle School on 91st Street, the skating rink is open from dawn to 10 p.m. daily and admission is free.
