BNSF cancels weekend train signal work through western suburbs

Signal upgrades planned for the BNSF railroad from Lisle to Hinsdale this weekend have been canceled, Metra officials said.

BNSF had advised village officials that the work, installing a monitoring system capable of controlling a train’s speed and braking remotely, could require crossings at Prospect Avenue in Clarendon Hills and Stoughton Street in Hinsdale to be shut down for short periods of time from Friday to Sunday. Metra had also warned some weekend trains might be delayed.

The delays are no longer expected, however, as the upgrades have been postponed until March, Hinsdale Village Manager Kathleen Gargano said.
