The start of the Kelli O’Laughlin murder trial has been tentatively set for Sept. 2.

John Wilson, Jr. of Chicago is charged with murder in the stabbing death of 14-year-old O’Laughlin in her Indian Head Park home in October 2011, after she surprised him during a burglary.

Wilson’s attorneys were not in court for a status hearing Monday morning, because they had cases in other courthouses, prosecutors said.

But Assistant State’s Attorney Guy Lisuzzo said defense attorney John Paul Carroll had agreed to reserve Sept. 2 for the start of the trial. Associate Judge John J. Hynes agreed to the date.

Wilson will be back in the Cook County courthouse in Bridgeview May 29 to check on the status of the case.
