IF YOU’RE GETTING A FEDERAL INCOME TAX REFUND, HOW ARE YOU PLANNING TO SPEND THE MONEY?
Cindy Acker, Hinsdale, retired office worker: “I don’t think I’m getting a refund. I haven’t filed yet, but I’m working desperately to get it done.”
Mary Lauer, Westmont, retired teacher: “I’m not getting much back. I have to pay my accountant, and I’ll put the rest in a savings account.”
Wilma Rohan, Hinsdale, cosmetologist: “I don’t know if I’m getting a refund back. It looks like I’ll be spending it on food and gas. That’s what’s cutting into my budget.”
Bob Lang, Clarendon Hills, IT professional: “I got it back on Feb. 4, and we used to go on a spring break vacation to Savannah, Ga.”
Minnie Sandstedt, Oak Brook, volunteer: “This is the first year I won’t be getting a refund since I’m not retired. It’s a surprise and unfortunate. I used to travel or do things with it, but I will be staying home this year.”
Anne Fuller, Hinsdale, homemaker: “I’ll save most of it and spend a little.”
Maeve Rafferty, Hinsdale, crossing guard: “I already got it. I bought new carpeting and a couch.”
Konrad Miskowicz-Retz, Downers Grove, association executive: “I don’t know if I’m getting a refund. I’ll have to wait and see.”
Barbara Janes, Hinsdale, part-time restaurant worker: “I think we’re getting one, but who knows. I’ll probably pay a bill or some on my credit card.”
Alberta Napolitano, Brookfield, human resources: “I’m not sure. I just brought my tax stuff in today. If I’m getting anything back, I’ll save it for Christmas.”
Abby Elsasser, Hinsdale, advertising sales: “We have spent it already on furniture. We just moved here from the city.”
Jane Michaels asked this question Friday in the Grant Square Shopping Center in Hinsdale.
