Junior Noah Young, of Berwyn, may think he flies under the radar at Nazareth Academy, but he shines in the school’s Fine Arts program. He's a percussionist in the Nazareth Concert Band, the drummer in the Jazz Band and the head of the lighting crew for the theater. Young is also involved in the school’s Tech Club and is a great source of information for both students and staff. “Noah is a wonderfully talented student who excels in technical theater,” Auditorium Technical Director Anthony Bartucci said. “He’s not only quick to respond, but he’s proactive, anticipating problems and coming up with solutions.”
Q: What are your post-high school plans?
A: I plan on going to college to further my education. I’m not quite sure where yet, but I have some careers in mind.
Q: What do you like to do on the weekends?
A: On my weekends, I enjoy watching old movies and playing video games with my friends.
Q: What is your favorite class or favorite subject? Favorite teacher?
A: My favorite class is my religion class with Mr. Sep (Szcepkowski). He is a really funny guy who is also a great teacher. He makes the class fun and a highlight of my day.
Q: What is your favorite social media?
A: My favorite social media site is YouTube because it has everything you could ever dream of searching for. I use it for everything from studying to wasting a few hours.
Q: What is one thing someone wouldn’t expect to know about you?
A: I love music. I have a fairly large record collection and I have a huge iTunes library. I enjoy listening to music as well as playing it. When I am at home, I probably have my headphones on listening to The Black Keys, The White Stripes or Arctic Monkeys.
Q: What is your favorite thing about Nazareth Academy?
A: I really like the friendly atmosphere. I find everyone is always willing to help with homework or projects.
Q: What is your favorite sports team?
A: I’m a pretty big Blackhawks fan, but I always watch the Bears on Sundays.
Q: What is the one website you that you must visit every day?
A: I always go on YouTube to watch videos from some of my favorite musicians and comedians.
Q: What is your favorite TV show?
A: I loved “Scrubs” when it was on. I can still quote every episode from memory. My favorite current show is “How I Met Your Mother.” I can also quote these episodes from memory.
Q: What else should we know about you?
A: I play with two (working on a third) bands outside of Naz. One of my bands, Ashe-n-co, has played at the Bottom Lounge in Chicago and at a variety of festivals. I love playing my drums with a band, and I don’t mean to brag, but my drums are pretty impressive.
I guess I could also be considered an entrepreneur. My friend and I started a business for live audio rentals for bands, DJs and minor theater productions. The business has evolved into more of a mobile DJ service with some other friends who wanted to contribute.
All of these activities keep me super busy.
