HINSDALE — Tradition continues to play an important role in homecoming at Hinsdale Central.

Pam Kalafut, Central’s activities director, found out the importance of the school’s homecoming traditions when she first started in her job 10 years ago.

“I wanted to make changes, but I became convinced by kids, parents, and teachers that things were great the way they were and that no change was necessary,” she said.

The homecoming court, which was announced at a schoolwide pep assembly Monday, is made up of seniors Claudia Beard, Bridget Gilmore, Busy Hopper, Coco Bergdoll, Jill Pocius, Tess Cvikota, Rosanna Lederhausen, Sheereen Fateezadah, Caroline Lorenzini, Rachel Lenderman, Julie Kanter, Lauren Adrian, Chase Arima, Sean O’Neill, Evan Blust, Jeremy Cai, Tanner Makris, Nicky Relias, Dan Andrade, Danny Bergholz, Keaton Pillino, Redmond Martin, Brogan O’Doherty and Dan Menza.

“It’s very exciting to be a part of this,” Kanter said. “It was always fun to watch the older people go through it, and now we have the opportunity, too.”

Central students were scheduled to vote Thursday for homecoming queen and king. The winners will be announced Friday.

A fire alarm, which was later attributed to faulty parts nearby the cafeteria, delayed Monday’s pep assembly for about 15 minutes. The alarm went off after students had filled the gym and were waiting for the start of the assembly. Everyone in the gym moved out of the building, but returned about 10 minutes later.~.
