LA GRANGE — A fleet of buses transported freshmen and sophomores from the Lyons Township High School South Campus in Western Springs to join upperclassmen to the north Friday in a thunderous all-school assembly.
The popular “Hunger Games” film featured prominently in contests and jokes among students and faculty to promote school spirit and unity.
More than 200 students and at least 30 staff members took part in the assembly. Organizers scheduled two practices this year to make the many acts run smoothly, said Peter Geddeis, student activities director.
The assembly drew loud cheers during contests among the four classes, a tug of war testing the prowess of swimmers vs. wrestlers, and a competition between boys and girls basketball teams.
The event also showcased the talents of the LT Poms, Steppers, Drumline and the Special Olympics Basketball teams.
