Dahl celebrates podcast milestone in Lincolnwood

Come for the comedy, stay for the Strudahl. Subscribers to the Steve Dahl podcast got a chance to be a part of the show as Dahl and his podcast sidekicks hosted three remote shows live from L. Woods in Lincolnwood last week celebrating a full year of the paid subscription Dahlcast.

Fans packed into a private room at the restaurant to watch as the 90-minute-plus shows, filled with Dahl’s observations and humorous comments on current events in the news, were recorded. Topics ranged from the Drew Peterson trial to an undiscovered Jamaican violinist.
After parting ways with traditional radio, Dahl began recording and posting podcasts from the basement studio in his home, free at first while still under contract with CBS. But soon after the bonds to corporate radio were severed, Dahl took a leap of faith that his fans for more than 30 years would not only follow him to digital downloads, but also be willing to pay for a, now free from FCC regulations, daily fix of the Stever.
Now able to use language that would have previously prompted the “The Lady from Tinley Park” to make a complaint call, it’s now part of Dahl’s colorful palette taking fans through his daily life.
His wife, Janet, no stranger to being on the show since the beginning, has a weekly segment “Ask Janet.” Her theme song starts out, “What’s the meaning of life, What’s it like being Steve Dahl’s Wife,” and offers listeners a chance to not only get some helpful advice on any topic, but also often leads to deeper insight into Dahl himself.
Singer songwriter Dag Juhlin and subwoofer-bass voiced Brendan Greeley help keep the show rolling, prompting Dahl to delve deeper into the comedy pool. Juhlin provides musical content for the show with intros for several segments like Floridiots in the News, a roundup of crazy and sometimes stupid things that Floridians have done from the police blotters and newspapers of Florida. Dahl doesn’t only pick on the Sunshine state; Indiana and Illinois brainiacs get their comedy beat-down, too.
Long time Chicago radio fans are also rewarded as both Buzz Kilman and Kevin Matthews are part of the Dahl Podcast Network, in addition to shows by Dahl’s son, Matt, actor Dino Stamatopoulos and James VanOsdol.
Dahl rounds out his show with regular call-ins from sports commentators Tom Thayer, Keith Van Horne, and Jeff Joniak. Writer and TV producer Tami Sagher brings both a Hollywood and woman’s perspective to Dahl’s show.
Apparent during the listener call-in portion of the show, his fans love that they don’t have to listen to long commercial breaks that now plague traditional radio; moreover, they have complete control over when and where to listen to the show. And that show which Dahl doesn’t hesitate to promote at every opportunity, with free flash-drives of the podcast and just getting out and meeting long lost fans can be downloaded from iTunes or at Dahl.com.
