Great music, fun contests, mouth-watering food and absolutely perfect weather. Everything fell into place on Sept. 15 when the fourth annual Rocktoberfest kicked into high gear.

The fundraiser for local nonprofit Community Nurse Health Association welcomed 1,800 attendees to Gordon Park in La Grange for a night of bands, brats, beer, bags and competitive bartending.

The always popular celebrity bartender competition pitted local celebrities against each other in a contest for who could garner the most tips. The contest garnered $10,000 for Community Nurse with Thom Serafin of LaGrange Park taking home the grand prize.

Three bands rocked throughout the festivities, including Far-Sighted, a trio of Lyons Township High School sophomores making their Rocktoberfest debut. The Bad Dads, a group of fathers from La Grange and Western Springs, returned to the stage for the third time. Finally, headliner Infinity played hits from the ’80s, to the delight of the crowd.

“This was the biggest Rocktoberfest we’ve had so far, bringing out the most people and raising the most money,” said Hollis Igras, manager of events and marketing. “The perfect weather definitely helped and the community really came out for this.”

The event raised $88,000 for Community Nurse, a primary care health, dental and social service for low-income working families in western Cook and eastern DuPage counties.
