Hundreds of wish lists sent electronically to Santa at Lyons Township High School

WESTERN SPRINGS — More than 350 students from Lyons Township High School hosted hundreds of area children Dec. 4 on a visit to a holiday wonderland at the south campus Discovery Center and surrounding classrooms for the Holiday Write Night.
Student volunteers dressed as rather tall elves escorted kindergarten through third-grade students to computers and helped them type out a message to Santa. After just a few moments, there was a reply from the North Pole, thanks to LT students playing the role in another room.
Young visitors also could make personalized cards on a computer, record a message to be broadcast on the school’s radio station WLTL-FM 88.1 and enjoy cookies, punch, musical entertainment and a magic show. There also was a chance for face painting, cookie decorating, stories and to get a keepsake photo taken with the school’s lion mascots, Noil and Nessie.
Visitors brought canned food and non-perishable items to be donated to a local food pantry.
Dorothy Cochran, coordinator of the south campus Discovery Center, said more than 300 children registered for the program.
