Salt Creek’s natural beauty is showing a bit more as it winds through Western Springs and LaGrange Park, thanks to volunteer cleanup efforts Saturday. Father Robert Barron, who was the host of a television documentary series on Catholicism that aired nationwide, has been appointed as the new rector/president of the University of St. Mary of the Lake Mundelein Seminary. Ohio-based Cardinal Health has signed an agreement to add Burr Ridge-based Dik Drugs to its worldwide system of pharmaceutical distribution centers. A family-owned company since 1914, Dik Drugs serves 500 independent pharmacies. Cardinal spokeswoman Tara Schumacher said Dik Drugs fits well into Cardinal’s growth plan. “Growing our base of independent pharmacies is a key aspect to our company’s growth,” as is increasing the company’s sales of generic drugs, Schumacher said. She said independent pharmacies, such as ones served by Dik Drugs, tend to purchase generics. Luke Vulpo, a 17-year veteran of the department, moves to the rank of sergeant to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Sgt. Bryan DeYoung. Officer Ryan Husarik steps into the rank of corporal.
