The painful left heel injury Uzo Okoro sustained late in the indoor girls track and field season seemed a distant, albeit ever-present, reminder. “Getting through the whole (outdoor) season was an accomplishment for me,” the Hinsdale South senior said. “I’m not going to complain. Jill Hardies’ three-year running career at Hinsdale Central has experienced a gamut of emotions. From a third-place 3200-meter run finish as a freshman that was indispensible to the Red Devils’ capturing the 2010 Class 3A girls track and field team state championship to a junior campaign riddled with nagging injuries, Hardies was poised to end the season in style last weekend at the state finals at Eastern Illinois University. When starting goalkeeper Riley Glenn suffered a knee injury April 24, Hinsdale Central soccer coach Michael Smith approached sophomore Jenna Blodgett about filling the vacancy. “Jenna is a field player, but she’s a very selfless young lady,” Smith said. “She said ‘If you believe I can do it, then I’ll give it a try.’ She was nervous at first, but always had the confidence and has been a great stopgap. One of the sure things in high school sports the past couple years has been the vault of Hinsdale Central’s Tyler Leahy. Leahy was at Lincoln-Way East in Frankfort on Saturday and looking to defend his state vault title. There is a good reason that Hinsdale Central girls lacrosse player Alex Olsen ranks among the state’s leaders in caused turnovers, interceptions and draw controls. “Those are areas where however bad you want it is whether or not you will get it,” Olsen said. “Nothing like that happens unless you really work for it. My coach is big about being aggressive and that helps a lot. I really learned that this season.
