Hinsdale South junior Jessica Mutters verbally committed to Creighton University, and she’ll remain a full-time club player with Eclipse rather than play with the Hornets.
The defender from Darien last played high school soccer as a freshman, but choosing a college hasn’t changed her mind about not joining the Hornets. Mutters will join another club teammate, Andrew junior Paige Jarsombeck, who also committed to play for Creighton. Mutters chose Creighton over Canisius in mid-December.
“I always wanted a small school,” Mutters said. “It’s the perfect size. Their science department is good. I want to be a science major.”
Mutters attended an offseason camp at Creighton two years ago. With Eclipse, she plans on playing in upcoming tournaments in Texas, Ohio and Carmel, Ind.
Mutters considered playing at Creighton, as her older sister, Danielle, recently completed her college soccer career at Illinois State, a fellow member of the Missouri Valley Conference, along with the Bluejays.
“I’m very excited, ever since I first went to camp there,” Mutters said.
