Girls Lacrosse: Hinsdale Central falls to Loyola in state semifinal

Hinsdale Central scored the game’s first goal Wednesday.
The lead lasted less than two minutes as Loyola struck for four consecutive goals — three by Dede Snediker —and never looked back in a 14-7 win in the state semifinals at North Central College in a rematch of last year’s state final.
“We played all season long to get back to the state championship game,” said Snediker, who finished with a team-best five goals. “Being down gave us that extra push we needed to come out stronger.”
Winners of 13 in a row, the three-time defending state champion Ramblers (21-3) play New Trier on Friday at Northwestern. Loyola beat the Trevians 11-10 on April 27 during the regular season.
“It’s not about who won last year or who won earlier this year,” Snediker said. “It’s a clean slate, but we are confident.”
Loyola led 7-3 at the half and 11-4 with 9:57 to play in the second half.
Hinsdale Central rallied with three goals in a two-minute stretch to leave it 12-7, but the Ramblers closed the door with two goals.
Katherine Eilers followed Snediker with four goals, and Meredith Abrahamson added three.
“We adjust well to different situations,” Loyola coach John Dwyer said. “Our kids don’t get rattled.”
Amy O’Grady led the Red Devils with five goals.
“They have great talent, and we couldn’t stop them on the defensive end,” Hinsdale Central coach Lindsay Owens said. “But I am proud of how we played.”
