Girls Lacrosse: Hinsdale Central finishes 3rd wtih win over Lake Forest

Lake Forest’s girls lacrosse team had to face two opponents in Friday’s third-place game at the IHSWLA state tournament in Evanston:

Hinsdale Central’s Red Devils.

Adversity.

It was too formidable of a double, as LF — minus three of its top players — got doubled up 12-6 at Northwestern University’s Lakeside Field. The Scouts (18-4) played without injured captains Isabelle Montagne, Hannah Geldermann and Abby Sirus.

Montagne, a junior midfielder/attack, and Geldermann, a senior midfielder, earned All-America status in 2012. Sirus, a senior, was one of LF’s top defenders.

“We felt their spirit while we played,” said Scouts junior middie Katie Sullivan, who scored two goals against HC (17-4). “They were the rocks of our team and playing without them was tough, really tough.”

Hinsdale Central, last year’s state runner-up, never trailed after going up 3-2 on the first of Jacquie Edwards’ three goals at 12:26 of the first half. Middie Kate Christian also recorded a hat trick for the victors, while junior middie Amy O’Grady contributed a pair of goals.

“They were fast and really good on the 50/50 balls and draws,” said Scouts sophomore midfielder Emily Cavalaris (two goals). “They also capitalized on fast breaks.”

First-year LF coach Julie Levy lamented the hits her squad took injury-wise. But she also lauded the efforts she received on Friday.

“We had a great season, and what happened to us was unfortunate,” said Levy. “But I could not have asked for anything more from my players today. They worked hard and played with pride.”
