HILLSIDE — When Hinsdale Central lost to Proviso West last season, it was the one defeat that stung the most for quarterback Brian Owens.

He eased the pain a bit with his performance Friday in the Red Devils’ 34-25 West Suburban Silver win in Hillside.

Owens completed 15-of-27 passes for 302 yards and four touchdowns.

“It was a big win,” Owens said. “It was hard losing to them last year. I remember blowing a lead last year and it was hard walking off the field. We knew they were going to be tough; they beat us the last two years, but we felt confident coming in and executed.”

Junior receiver Ian Bunting also had a huge day for the Red Devils (3-0, 1-0 Silver), catching seven passes for 210 yards, including touchdown receptions of 58 and 68 yards.

John Claussen had a 42-yard TD reception and Jack Adams, who rushed for 84 yards on 24 carries, caught a four-yard TD pass from Owens.

John Andrews booted two field goals in the win, including a 42-yarder.

“It’s a monkey off our back,” Hinsdale Central coach Rich Tarka said. “They really have a lot of good athletes and play hard. We knew we had our hands full.”

Proviso West quarterback Anthony Dorsey completed 11-of-24 passes for 209 yards, while Demetrius Streeter had seven catches for 157 yards and a TD. The Panthers dipped to 2-1, 1-0.
