Lyons seniors know it’s time to get serious

Lyons senior Sara Beck has scored 47 points in her last three games entering this week, but Beck knows her production will really count next week when Lyons opens the Class 4A playoffs on Tuesday.
Lyons (16-8) owns the No. 6 seed in the Trinity Sectional and will play 12th-seeded St. Ignatius or 23rd-seeded South Shore in the first round at 7:30 p.m. at St. Ignatius.
If Lyons can earn a victory, it would likely play third-seeded Fenwick (21-5) in the regional final Feb. 14. The Lions and Friars have not met this season.
“I think the way our team is playing, we are coming together as team,” said Beck, who will play next season an Roosevelt University. “Hopefully, we can carry this into the playoff season.”
Lyons entered this week with three consecutive wins and has won five of its last six games. Beck matched her career high with 20 points Friday night in a 55-37 victory over Downers Grove North. Lyons was scheduled to end the regular season at Morton Wednesday in a West Suburban crossover game.
Lyons then beat Maine West 49-48 Saturday on Senior Night in La Grange.
“Senior Night was great,” Beck said. “Our team doesn’t want the high school season to end.”
A Lyons-Fenwick matchup could be a sort of reunion for Fenwick senior guard Maggie Reilly, a Western Springs resident. Reilly grew up with members of Lyons while playing at McClure Jr. High. Another regular contributor for Fenwick is junior guard MacKenzie Sewall, who went to middle school at St. Francis Xavier in La Grange.
Fenwick wraps up its regular season at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at No. 4 Marian Catholic (25-1) in an East Suburban Catholic matchup. The Friars open the playoffs against either Dunbar or Argo at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
“It was our Senior Night last Friday (against St. Viator). It was our last home game, the last one for all of us (seniors) forever. It was sad,” Fenwick senior Kendall Boardman said. “It’s the beginning of the end. I feel sad and excited.”
