ADDISON — After experiencing all the tension from game one of the 2013 Cougar Cup, Lyons and AWF (Addison, Willowbrook, Fenton) knew they would be in for another close, physical game.

Now they can prepare for another.

The Renegades forced a game three after winning 4-2 Wednesday night in Addison.

“It feels great,” said AWF goaltender Alex Gibbs, who made 17 saves. “I just kept my head in the game and stayed focused. Our team’s got to stay out of the box and that’s all it takes.”

Penalties and power plays did become a problem as 15 total were recorded, nine for AWF. The Renegades played through it though, scoring three short-handed goals.

“We’ve scored a lot of short-handed goals all season, so that’s not anything unusual for us,” said AWF head coach Marc Pinto. “I think the biggest difference is we had a team effort. Every player gave 100 percent and it allowed us to get the puck in the net and help our goaltender do his job.”

Hayden Adams scored two short-handers for AWF, one on a 5-on-3.

“It feels great,” he said. “I just did the same thing as I did before. We were at even strength more so we were stronger on that, played our defense and pushed it when we were short.”

David Miceli scored a short-hander in the first period for the Renegades and Dean Cribaro knocked one in on a power play.

Lyons’ Nick Wink and Hunter Wilkinson each found the back of the net and goaltender Alex Hernandez made 20 saves.
