Hinsdale South sunk some big free throws late as they won against Downers Grove South 50-47, according to High School Cube News.

THE SKINNY

Hinsdale South (5-3, 2-0 WSC Gold) and Downers South (2-4, 1-1) went back and forth all night with neither side gaining much traction. The Hornets took the lead late in the fourth and managed to hold on in spite of a pair of near-misses by the Mustangs in the final 7 seconds.

TURNING POINT

Mustangs senior guard Deandre Washington picked off an inbounds pass down 48-47 with 6.6 to go in the fourth. Washington had a wide-open 12-footer from the baseline and he pushed his jumper to the right. Hornets senior guard Marcel Phillips got the rebound and drew the foul. He sank the free throws to give the Hornets a three-point lead. Mustangs senior guard Danny Spinuzza missed on a good half-court shot at the buzzer.
