Hinsdale South was on the ropes early in the 2nd half but a big coaching move proved decisive, according to High School Cube News.

THE SKINNY

Hinsdale South countered Leyden's 10-point run in the third quarter with a 12-point streak of its own as the Hornets remained undefeated in the West Suburban Gold Friday night in Darien.

TURNING POINT

Leyden (3-4, 0-3) went up 35-26 early in the third quarter, forcing Hinsdale South coach Brett Moore to call a timeout. The Hornets (6-3, 3-0) responded with their decisive 12-point run that included three-point plays by Marcell Phillips and Larry Motuzis. Hinsdale South held the Eagles without a basket for nearly 6 1/2 minutes.

THE STAR

Sophomore Barret Benson (eight rebounds), Hinsdale South's 6-foot-9 center, scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half to lead the comeback. Motuzis scored a game-high 18 points and Phillips had 15 points, but Benson's layups off key inside plays were the back-breakers for Leyden.
