Downers Grove North had trouble solving Lyons’ 1-3-1 zone most of Friday night, managing just single digits in each of the first two quarters. The Lions used a balanced attack with eight players scoring to pull away.
The Trojans (4-6, 0-3 West Suburban Silver) cut the deficit to 10-9 with a bucket by Devin Blake in the opening minute of the second quarter, but then watched as Lyons went on a 17-2 run to take a commanding 27-11 lead. The Lions forced five turnovers in the stanza and held Downers North scoreless for more than four minutes.
All five starters scored for Lyons (5-3, 2-1), while senior guard Omarr Gilbert fueled the run that gave the Lions the lead for good. He had eight of his 12 points in the second quarter, including two 3-pointers. His defensive intensity also helped Downers North commit 15 turnovers.
