THE SKINNY

Lyons used the energy from an electric crowd to build a huge early lead during its Blackout game Friday in La Grange and then held off a furious comeback attempt by Proviso West for a West Suburban Conference Silver win. The Lions (11-6, 4-2), who scored the first 12 points of the game, led 23-7 after one quarter and built its advantage up to 33-9 midway through the second quarter. Proviso West (6-7, 1-4) stormed back to get within 62-58 with 4 minutes, 39 seconds left but could get no closer.

TURNING POINT

After Proviso West opened the third quarter on a 16-9 run to pull within 62-58, Jaquan Phipps rebounded a miss and scored on the putback to spark an 11-2 spurt that put the Lions up 73-60.
