THE SKINNY

Lyons used a balanced attack to reach the semifinals of the 40th annual Jack Tosh Holiday Classic Saturday in Elmhurst. The Lions (8-3), who have now won five games in a row, had six players score at least six points in the victory. Lyons will now take on either York or St. Ignatius in the semifinals at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

TURNING POINT

After Metea Valley (7-5) used an 8-0 run to jump ahead 19-15 in the second quarter, Omarr Gilbert drained a wide open 3-pointer to spark a 12-3 spurt that put Lyons ahead 27-22 at halftime. Gilbert scored the Lions’ first six points during the momentum-changing run. Lyons led by at least three points the rest of the way.

THE STAR

Senior Matt Mrazek isn’t exactly known for his scoring, but he led the Lions with 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field. The 6-foot-4 forward added seven rebounds and is among the tournament’s rebounding leaders.
